vTap turns Internet devices into content revenue channels

The more ways consumers can access content, the more subscription and advertising revenues it can generate. That means any and all Internet-connected devices from cell phones to PDA’s, portable game consoles to PC’s and personal media receivers and TV set-top boxes are potential money-making outlets for Internet-based content creators, aggregators and distributors.

Although access to the content via any device has been a conceptual possibility for quite awhile, the reality has not caught up. This is due to two vexing technology hurdles. vTap, thesearch and browse solution specifically designed for input and display constrained devices that  makes it easy to find and consume Internet content on connected devices, at any time, has solved both of them.

No more searching in vain (and frustration) for specific content
The first problem vTap tackled is the limited data entry capabilities and navigational functionality of handheld mobile devices and television remotes and set-top boxes. Their small keypads and rudimentary functionality make it difficult for media consumers to find the exact asset they’re looking for — no matter how well-presented the online catalog may be. vTap uses a unique, intelligent search and browse solution that needs just a few characters to go on instead of words and full titles. Consumers can search your content offering and find exactly what they want with just a few taps on even the most limited keypad.
vTap also organizes the results in a way that makes it just as simple to browse and select the desired asset. And it can be personalized. Each time a consumer uses vTap to find a piece of content, vTap’s personalization technology can “remember” the essence of his/her preferences and apply it to subsequent searches. The more it’s used, the smarter it gets and the faster it works.

The second problem to be solved is one of format. Web-based content can be encoded in any number of formats that may or not be supported by the display device. vTap solves this too, by ensuring that any device requesting a web video receives it in a format that is compatible with that device.

Give your PC consumers an instant experience upgrade
While vTap was originally developed to solve the issue of searching and browsing on Internet-connected devices with limited keypads and navigational functionality, it is also proving it’s worth in the PC environment. It simplifies the search and browse process, can intuitively learn user preferences, and makes conventional PC searching and browsing seem laborious and inexact.

How it works
vTap integrates with Internet-based infrastructure and requires no additional capital investment in technology. A thin-client embedded in Internet-connected devices relays the user’s query to the Veveo-hosted network featuring the Veveo Search Complex. The Veveo Search Complex deploys a sophisticated set of algorithms that search, pull and organize the results and then transfers them back to the thin-client for display on the handheld device or TV screen. The Veveo Search Complex also solves the format problem as discussed above.

vTap ports to most common mobile, television set-top box and PC platforms so that you can be sure  potential consumers can access your content online, from a variety of devices.
