Veveo Announces vTap Web Video Support For Mobile Internet Devices and Ultra-Mobile PCs
Andover, Mass., September 18, 2007—Veveo, Inc., (www.veveo.net) a technology company that delivers the full power of Internet video to mobile devices, today announced that its vTap™ web video service will support Intel-based Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and Ultra-Mobile PCs (UMPCs).
“The combination of Intel’s low power technologies and Veveo’s vTap web video service solves the critical challenge of discovering and viewing the fastest growing, most viral and underserved form of content on the Internet – web videos – for mobile users,” said Guru Pai, Veveo’s Vice President of Marketing and Business Development.
With the ever-increasing pool of available web video content, the primary challenge for users, especially those on the go, is a streamlined means for finding the exact video content they want to see, when they want it, on the mobile platform of their choice. As a result, search is critically important for users of Mobile Internet Devices because these devices do not have the full sized keyboards of desktops and are in environments where the user has an expectation of “on-demand” content.
By taking advantage of Intel’s low power technologies, Veveo will deliver a web video experience for mobile users that has the power and full functionality of a traditional desktop application optimized for maximum processing efficiency, speed and on-demand content that includes:
• Character-based incremental search that returns results for every character entered – saving time and keystrokes while avoiding the effort involved in typing full keywords from constrained keypads
• Intuitive browsing support as well as dynamic clustering and hierarchical organization of search results for an effective browse experience that makes it easy for mobile users to discover results from touch screens
• A comprehensive and continually growing web video index that ensures users have access to the most current, timely and relevant web videos at their fingertips
The first release of vTap device software for Mobile Internet Devices supporting Mobile Internet Linux will be available in October 2007. Veveo is working with Intel to deliver its vTap device software to Original Device Manufacturers (OMDs). By adopting the vTap device software on their devices, ODMs can provide consumers an exciting web video experience right from their Mobile Internet Devices – creating new opportunities and audiences for their devices.
“The emerging MID and UMPC categories represent a significant growth opportunity for Intel and the industry,” said Pankaj Kedia, Director of Global Ecosystem Programs for the Ultra-Mobility Group at Intel Corporation. “Intel’s low power technologies, combined with Veveo’s optimized vTap device software, will enable mobile users to enjoy web video experiences while on the go.”
Veveo is a sponsor of the Intel Developer Forum and is showcasing its vTap web video service at booth # 814.
