Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Murali Aravamudan co-founded Veveo in October 2004 with the goal of enabling quick and efficient content discovery in input constrained devices such as televisions and mobile phones. As CEO of Veveo, he has established the company’s leadership in its target market segments with more than 100 million device deployments, and its continued innovation of advanced interfaces for various emerging product and services categories.
Murali is a technology pioneer and successful entrepreneur in mobile, communications, and multimedia. In addition to authoring 56 US patents and more than 30 pending patents, Murali has built and led businesses that have pioneered products and solutions in emerging industry categories.
Prior to founding Veveo, Murali was vice president and general manager of the Winphoria Division of Motorola’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector, following the successful acquisition of Winphoria Networks, a company he founded in 2000 and led as CTO until its acquisition in 2003. Winphoria Networks was a pioneer in the groundbreaking Mobile Wireless SoftSwitch and Instant Communications applications for mobile networks.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Aravamudan served as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the Communications Software Business at Lucent Technologies and as a department head of Communications Software Research at Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill. In addition, he founded and served as President of Isochrone Inc., an internet multimedia software company. He was also the principal architect of AT&T’s Internet Enhanced Technology Services.
Founder and Vice President of Technology
Ajit Rajasekharan successfully develops and deploys new interactive applications. Ajit’s experience in engineering and developing interactive, educational technology and secure audio transmission over the Internet allows him to create and understand the rules of success in a web-dominated world. In his role at Veveo, Ajit’s hands-on approach to technological excellence is establishing a new standard in how consumers access video content over the web.
Prior to founding Veveo with Murali Aravamudan, Ajit founded Readia, an educational technology company. Readia was funded by top US venture capitalists and created patented technology that brought interactivity to the printed page. In addition to his experience at Veveo and Readia, Ajit was the senior director of AudibleReady architecture at Audible (acquired by Amazon) where he oversaw the creation of end-to-end distribution infrastructure for secure delivery of audio over the Internet.
Ajit has authored 29 US patents, and 9 pending patent applications.
Chief Financial Officer
Harris Fishman is a veteran in the fields of finance and technology. In addition to his work at Veveo, Harris served as CFO for a number of high-profile companies in diverse industries including software, telecommunications and new media. Prior to joining Veveo, Harris served as the founding CFO of Sonus Networks, Winphoria Networks, the Family Education Network (acquired by Pearson), Viaweb (acquired by Yahoo!) and VideoServer. Fishman, a certified public accountant, was previously a senior manager at Deloitte & Touche and co-founder of the Boston office’s High Technology and Emerging Business Group.
Chief Product Officer
Daren Gill is responsible for the roadmap and development of Veveo’s search and personalization products across mobile, TV and connected devices. Veveo’s technology powers a variety of “smart” experiences for Nokia, AT&T, Comcast, Cablevision and DIRECTV.
Daren has 17 years of media and entertainment experience, and 10 years focused on personalization, recommendations and search. Daren served as SVP of New Product Development at ChoiceStream and was instrumental in the design of personalization features for iTunes, Yahoo! Movies, Blockbuster Online and DIRECTV. Daren began his career as an attorney focused on entertainment law, but left private practice to co-found the Hear Music record label, which was later acquired by Starbucks. He is a frequent industry speaker on the subject of personalization, search and content discovery.
Chief Marketing Officer
Sam is a hi-tech product and marketing executive, with more than 15 years of experience leading marketing and product management for businesses and organizations at Motorola, Bose, Real Networks, On2 Technologies (Google), and various startups. Sam has deep expertise in the digital media industry and brings broad background of cable, Internet and wireless media to Veveo. During the course of his career, Sam has developed and launched various industry-first products for emerging industry categories. At Motorola, Sam launched the industry’s first DOCSIS certified residential gateway and wireless digital audio receiver. At Real Networks, Sam launched an early TVEverywhere platform and one of the industry’s first OTT video platforms.
Before joining Veveo, Sam was president of Boston based marketing advisory firm, 21TechMedia LLC, for venture backed digital media technology companies. During the five years with 21TechMedia, he helped numerous venture backed digital media technology startups with market entry, growth, turnarounds, and exits.
Prior to 21TechMedia, Sam was VP of Marketing at On2 Technologies, where he built the marketing function and positioned the company for its subsequent acquisition by Google.
Vice President of Sales and Service
An experienced executive with more than 17 years of experience with both emerging businesses and Fortune 500 firms, Michael Koenig leads Veveo’s sales and support teams. Prior to joining Veveo, Michael successfully led sales, service and marketing teams at software, communications and networking companies.
As vice president of converged communications at Motorola, Michael led the product management, development support, 3rd parties and new product introduction teams. While at Motorola, Michael was instrumental in launching emerging products that included Push-2-X, IMS and Seamless Mobility. Prior to Motorola, Michael was Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Service for Winphoria Networks, where he helped to evolve the company from initial product concept to successful commercial deployments.
Michael also held sales, marketing and business development positions with Jato Communications, Lucent Technologies and AT&T Communications.
Vice President, Veveo India
Rakesh Barve is responsible for Veveo’s operations in India where he manages the engineering and product development teams. Prior to Veveo, Rakesh worked at Winphoria Networks which was acquired by Motorola in May of 2003. At Winphoria, Rakesh contributed to the development and commercial deployment of the world’s first soft-switching based Mobile Switching Center. Before Winphoria Networks, Rakesh worked at Bell Laboratories where he worked on Voice over ATM aspects of a wire line soft switch product and solutions to provide failure resistant and fast restorable network path routing algorithms in an optical networking system.
Rakesh has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from IIT Bombay and a Ph.D. from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. His research work at Duke was in the area of online and external memory algorithms. He has published numerous algorithms and systems papers in peer reviewed computer science Conferences and Journals, and has several patents (some pending) in the area of I/O systems and search techniques for input and display constrained devices.
Vice President, Device Software
Viswanathan (Vishy) Thiagarajan is responsible for design, development and deployment of Veveo’s search and personalized products across various mobile and tablet platforms. He brings to Veveo more than fifteen years of experience in mobile, Internet and telecommunications technologies. Prior to Veveo, Vishy was Engineering Manager at Motorla, leading the product development for Push-To-Talk and IMS products. He joined Motorola through the acquisition of Winphoria Networks, where he was part of the core Engineering team that built the poineering Push-To-Talk over cellular networks and Wireless SoftSwitch. Vishy holds a B.E (Hons) in Instrumentation from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India.
